The Coaching Game Plan
SUGGESTED TIMELINES
Team Coaching typically consists of 5-8 team members plus the key stakeholder. A minimum of six months is needed to create and anchor the correct culture for team success. This works well on a 12-month or longer project, but may not be practical on shorter projects.
—Initial no-cost telephone discussions with company officials leading up to a discussion with an ultimate decision maker/key stakeholder. This person will be the person who stands to gain the most from Executive Team Leadership, LLC (ETL, LLC) being successful and will be the person who has ultimate authority over the members of the team. This would be the business owner in a small company.
—One Austin area free site visit (expenses for non Austin area visits) for face-to-face discussions. If a subsequent "kick-off" meeting with the team is requested, it will range from 1-2 hours in duration; ETL, LLC will plan for a 4 hour total block of time to allow further "post-team" discussion with HR, other personnel and stakeholder. Agreed to monthly periods and applicable fees start at the kick-off meeting.
—If the engagement is given the green light that day, the earlier meeting with the team will serve as a "kickoff meeting" for the process, and ETL, LLC will spend the second half of that first day and the next day in 1:1s with members of the team, culminating in a 1:1 with the key stakeholder. For this process to work, all members of the team and the stakeholder should be present during site visits.
—In subsequent weeks, ETL, LLC will have separate 30-minute 1:1s with each team member and the stakeholder where assessments and other information pertinent to a stronger team will be discussed.
—ETL, LLC will also need to join a regularly scheduled (usually weekly) team meeting, as a way to anchor team concepts. Methods to increase transparency, trust and communication within the team will be the point of this. This typically takes 15-30 minutes each week.
—ETL, LLC's standard billable monthly rate for these size and type of teams is subject to size and complexity of the team, plus expenses. Expenses would normally only be for the needed site visits.
—ETL, LLC will return to the site for a two-day visit in the second, fourth and sixth months of a standard six-month engagement. Face-to-face 1:1s of 30-60 minutes with each team member and the key stakeholder will need to be scheduled during those two days.
—After six-months, ETL, LLC will continue to work in this way with the team for the same monthly rate, if agreed by mutual consent.
Business Coaching is more focused on specific needs and the time for each engagement will vary.
For Individual Coaching, a 3-6 month duration is recommended in order for an individual to approach peak performance.
